Dear Parents of SVMS 8th Graders,

This letter is to inform you about ROPEs and 8th grade Promotion. Along with this letter is a copy of the ROPEs project assignment that was already given to your South Valley 8th Grader. ROPEs stands for Rite of Passage Experiences and is a capstone project required of all 8th grade students of South Valley who wish to walk in the 8th grade promotion ceremony and attend the field trips at the end of the semester. Students are given time during their homeroom classes to complete their projects.
Tuesday, May 17th, 8th grade students who are finished with their ROPEs will visit CSU for their Talent Search day.
Thursday, May 19, 8th graders who are finished with their ROPEs speech will have a field trip to the Denver Zoo.
Monday, May 23rd, Each 8th grader will present his/her ROPEs speech. Parents and family are invited and need to reserve a time slot for the speech on South Valley’s website
Tuesday, May 24th, 8th graders who completed their ROPEs speech will attend a field trip to Boondocks.
Wednesday, May 25th, all 8th graders who gave a ROPEs speech will attend a Promotion rehearsal and an 8th grade picnic during normal school hours, the promotion ceremony will be held the evening of May 25th. Invitations for family will be sent out prior to the event.
After promotion, 8th graders will be finished with middle school and will not be required to attend school Thursday or Friday of that week.
We here at South Valley are proud of this year’s 8th grade class. They’ve struggled and persevered through an unprecedented couple of years and grown into a fine group of young adults. Please support your 8th grader with his/her ROPEs project by reminding them of how much they’ve grown over the past three years and by sharing some photos with them of their experiences throughout their middle school years (they’ll need these for their projects).
As always, don’t hesitate to contact us here at SVMS if you have any questions or concerns.

The South Valley Middle School Staff

Community News

This year the Weld RE-1 Technology department will be selling used Chromebooks to 8th grade students for $10.  If you are interested in buying a used Chromebook please fill out this Google Form and pay the secretary at your school by Friday 5/20/22.  Any submissions after 5/20/22 will not be processed.   8th grade students will receive their device during the last week of school.  ALL CHECKS MUST BE MADE OUT TO WCSD RE-1 TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT.

A few notes about buying a used Chromebook:
8th grade students you will not be buying the device that you are currently using.  You will still need to turn in your current device at the end of the year.

All used Chromebooks will be removed from our network and our supervision.   They will be wiped of information and will be turned into a personal device. These devices will not be able to connect back to school WiFi and can only be used away from our network.

There could be cosmetic flaws with the device you purchase but the tech department will inspect each device for major issues before giving them to the purchaser.  You are purchasing this device “as is.”   Weld Re-1 will not repair any device after it has been purchased and removed from our network

Greetings South Valley Middle School Community,

I am delighted and honored to join the already thriving Weld Re-1 community as principal at South Valley Middle School. During my brief visit to the school, I noticed that it is filled with the bright, smiling faces of amazing students and staff.  You have created a caring and focused learning community that values relationships and I can not wait to get to know you and the unique strengths of each individual student. South Valley Middle School has excellent growth which means that teachers provide challenging and meaningful learning experiences as well as individualized support. I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with this successful team to help South Valley Middle School reach the next level of excellence.
