Wednesday, April 17, 2019, all Weld RE-1 schools and district offices will be
CLOSED at the request of the FBI. Yesterday, a credible threat was made
regarding the 1999 Columbine High School Shooting that led to several schools
being placed in LockOUT throughout Colorado. It is with an abundance of
caution that school districts throughout Colorado are closing today.

Please read this letter from Mr. Rangel, Superintendent of Schools for Weld RE-1. SpanishPlease review these support tips for helping children process the events that have occurred. SpanishAll Weld RE-1 schools will be open on Thursday, April 18. As your children prepare to return to school, we expect there to be questions and possible concerns given the widespread social media and news outlet coverage leading up to and continuing beyond the notification that the threat maker had been recovered. Given the complexities of the situation, Weld RE-1 school counselors, social worker, administrators, and teachers will be prepared to support you and your children. As parents, these are hard topics for us to even process, let alone explaining them to children. We have included a publication from the National Association of School Psychologists with this letter that provides support for having these conversations with your children.
