Welcome Back to School!
Dear Weld RE-1 Students, Families, and Staff,
As we begin the 2025–2026 school year, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome back. The start of a new school year is always a time of renewed hope and possibility—a fresh chapter in our shared commitment to ensuring every student learns, grows, and thrives.
This year, we continue to build on the foundation we’ve laid through our five-year strategic plan. Together, we are focusing on strengthening instruction in every classroom, increasing academic rigor and expectations for all students, and ensuring every learner feels included, supported, and challenged. With the launch of our new math curriculum, ongoing professional learning for our educators, and an emphasis on data-driven instruction, we are aligning our work to what matters most—student success.
At the heart of Weld RE-1 are our people. I’m incredibly proud of the dedication and care our staff brings each day, the support our families provide, and the resilience and curiosity our students show. It takes all of us working together to create schools where learning is engaging, safe, and student-centered.
As we prepare for the first day of school, we invite families to join us for our Back-to-School Nights to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and help students feel excited and ready for the year ahead:
- Gilcrest Elementary: August 5th from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
- Platteville Elementary: August 6th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
- Pete Mirich Elementary: August 6th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
- Valley Middle School: August 6th from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
We are excited to welcome students back on the following dates:
- First Day of School for K–12: August 7, 2025
- First Day of Preschool: August 12, 2025
Thank you for your continued partnership and belief in our district. I look forward to a great year ahead filled with collaboration, growth, and achievement.
Let’s make it a strong year—Viking Strong, United as One.
Warmly, Kimberly Bloemen Superintendent Weld RE-1 School District
About
Weld RE-1's mission is to encourage healthy eating habits among our students. By teaching them to make balanced meals from various food groups—Protein, Whole Grains, Vegetables, Fruits, and low-fat milk—we're instilling lifelong skills. We believe that fostering these habits will contribute positively to their overall well-being. Your continued partnership is vital in this endeavor, and we appreciate your involvement in promoting nutritious choices at home and encouraging them to try new things.
We Pride ourselves in being able to continue to offer FREE breakfast and lunch to all students in our district for the 25-26 school year. This initiative is made possible through the Healthy School Meals for All Act and the Community Eligibility Provision from the USDA.
To maintain our ability to provide these meals, it is essential for all families to submit a free and reduced application annually. This application helps us assess our overall free and reduced meal percentages within the district, which is critical for sustaining this valuable program.
Where can you find a Free and Reduced Data Form
Applications for free or reduced-price meals are available at all schools' main offices, and on your Campus Portal.
All families wishing to be considered for free or reduced-price meals must complete a NEW application at the beginning of EVERY school year.
The forms can be obtained in person, by printing them offline and returning them to your child's school, emailing a complete copy to: jakelk@wcsdre1.org, or directly mailing a complete copy to:
FOOD SERVICE PO BOX 157, Gilcrest, CO. 80623.

Benefits of filling out a Free and Reduced Data Form
By completing and submitting the Free and Reduced form, all families will have their district Tech Fees waived for the 2025-2026 school year, regardless of status. Additionally, those who receive free and reduced school meals will qualify for extra P-EBT funds from the state. Students can also benefit from waived or discounted district and sports fees, and discounts throughout their community.
Healthy School Meals Served Daily
The Food Service Department provides Breakfast and Lunch at all district schools as well as partnering with individual schools for special snacks, sack lunches for field trips, and other meals as requested.
Research has shown that good nutrition is critical to student achievement and is an integral part of the education process.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child Nutrition Department sets meal patterns and specific nutrient requirements that our breakfast and lunch menus must meet. Meals are planned to provide students with one-third of their Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) and ensure that they meet the guidelines for calories, fat, sodium, and other essential nutrients.
If you want to join your student for lunch
Parents are always welcome and encouraged to come eat with their student. We invite you to join your child for breakfast or lunch in our school cafeterias! Sharing mealtime is a wonderful way to connect and see firsthand the amazing scratch-cooked meals that we offer.
To ensure we have enough meals prepared, please call or email ahead to reserve a school lunch with your child’s school Secretary or Food Service Team Lead. You can find meal prices and contact details below. Your participation makes lunchtime special for our students, and we look forward to seeing you!
Special Meal Modifications
If your child requires meal modifications due to food allergies, please complete the Meal Modification form, which must be signed by a medical provider. Our Food Services Department can only accommodate these requests in accordance with state requirements with this signed documentation. Your cooperation ensures that we can provide safe and appropriate meals for all students.
